It led to the widespread discontent with the political leadership; the order for more participation and democracy; the strain of the working classes; the rise of nationalism; and finally, the regrouping of the intransigent forces based in the royalty, the aristocracy, the army, and the peasants.
It was the only Europe-wide collapse of traditional authority to date, but within a year, reactionary forces had won out, and the revolutions collapsed.

He believed that a Black state could be established in the Appalachian Mountains. The new "state" would be protected by white militias.
