German empire became the major competitor and rival in world trade. Britain and the US prepared for war with the breakdown of the "Concert of Europe."
The building of the Baghdad Railway and its consequent access by Rail to the Ottoman Empire caused finally WWI.
After the war Great Britain renamed Mesopotamia "Iraq" and confiscated the Railway and cancelled German oil concessions as payments for the project.
