Different tribes had different systems of government. The most common form of governance of smaller tribes involved a council of elders. The eldest members of the tribe voted on decisions and elected a main leader to organize the council. However, the Iroquois had a confederacy of five different large tribes. These tribes banned together under a constitutional democracy that lasted for hundreds of years before America. The leaders of these tribes often met with founding fathers such as Washington and Benjamin Franklin and heavily influenced the American constitution and governmental system.
there are not five elements of movement there are six. they are force, space, shape, rhythm, time, and flow
The treaties negotiated with the five tribes in 1866 required them to cede land in present-day Oklahoma, provide freedmen (former slaves) with full tribal citizenship, and allow for the construction of railroads through their territories.
The Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act
States were eager to gain access to lands inhabited by the "Five Civilized Tribes," so they passed the Indian Removal Act in 1830.
Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, And Chickosaw. Also known as the "five civilized tribes"
The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830.[1][2]President Andrew Jackson called for an Indian Removal Act in his 1829 speech on the issue. The Removal Act was strongly supported in the South, where states were eager to gain access to lands inhabited by the Five Civilized Tribes. In particular, Georgia, the largest state at that time, was involved in a contentious jurisdictional dispute with the Cherokee nation. President Jackson hoped removal would resolve the Georgia crisis. The Indian Removal Act was also very controversial. While Native American removal was, in theory, supposed to be voluntary, in practice great pressure was put on Native American leaders to sign removal treaties.
Five Civilized Tribes Museum was created in 1955.
Five-Civilized Tribes
First of all the Indian removal act was created by Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States. It was created to move all Native Americans (not Indians) to designated spots in Oklahoma territory and nebraska territory. the goal was to stop battles that had broken out between the Cherokees, Choctaws and other nations against American settlers and the us army. Most of these peoples were forced to walk a long and treacherous trail to the new territories where they were forced to live. This walk was know as the Trail of Tears. Now adays most people with Native American heritage from this era look at Jackson as the Jewish people look at Adolf Hitler. Some Native American casinos even didnt allow 20 dollar bills in because Jackson is on it.
Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, and Chickasaw. also known as the "Five Civilized Tribes".
Enacted by President Andrew Jackson in 1830, it was meant to encourage/assist/force member of the "five civilized tribes" from eastern states, particularly Georgia, to move west into the "Indian Territory", now Oklahoma. This act led to the Trail of Tears and more atrocities. the trail of tears was from 1830-1838
