The Virginia General Assembly. The Virginia General Assembly.
The process for amending the Virginia Constitution involves two main steps: proposal and ratification. An amendment can be proposed either by a two-thirds majority vote in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly or by a constitutional convention called by the General Assembly. Once proposed, the amendment must then be ratified by a majority of voters in a statewide referendum. This ensures that any changes to the constitution reflect the will of the people.
The Senate and The House of Delegates
The Senate and the Assembly.
In Virginia, the Governor has the authority to sign a bill into law. Once the General Assembly passes a bill, it is sent to the Governor, who can either sign it, allow it to become law without a signature, or veto it. If the Governor vetoes the bill, the General Assembly can attempt to override the veto with a two-thirds majority vote in both houses.
