about 300 years
There was a Viking settlement in Newfoundland, called Vinland. It only lasted a couple of years before the Vikings abandoned it.
The Viking program was a pair of probes launched in 1975, Viking I and Viking II, which were both sent to land on Mars. They ran a series of experiments while on the planet, Viking I operated for just over 3 and a half years until it suffered battery failure. Viking II operated for just over six years, unfortunately human error caused its antenna to stop working, and it could no longer communicate.

Viking live life
The first man made probes to successfully land on the surface of Mars were two Soviet probes; Mars 2 on November 27 and Mars 3 on December 2, 1971, but both ceased communicating within seconds of landing. The NASA Viking program had two landers; Viking 1 remained operational for six years, Viking 2 for three years after their 1976 landing.
