The American colonists defeated the sizeable and professional British army at Yorktown in 1781 due to several factors. The first factor was the courage of the American "minutemen" themselves, as well as the savvy leadership of their general. A second factor was the presence of their French allies on both land and sea. French soldiers marched alongside the colonists while a French fleet drove off the British navy and blockaded the British on land.

The colonist did use their knowledge of the landscape in many battles, but I am not sure how much it was used at Yorktown. The fact that they were off the coast and that French ships kept the British ships at bay was very important, but the entire region was hostile to the British. It had gotten to the point that there was no place that the British could go. I think this played more of a role that we realize. The reinforcements by the French added extra power to the colonial forces and the combination of factors gave the colonials the win.
because at that time in history the earth had many more earthquakes then so that it was very annoying also the gun powder then was highly unstable and often whent of so because of these two factors the colonist couldnt sleep as well because of the noise so that when king george put a tax on tea the colonist whent crazy because of lack of sleep
