Virginia was the scene of most combat in the American Civil War. Indeed the area around Fredericksburg Virginia saw major battles in 1861, 1862, 1863 and 1864. The area immediately adjacent to Richmond saw two major campaigns that were especially violent. In the western theater Tennessee saw the most action.
Atlanta, Georgia and Lawrence, Missouri are two very notable examples.

There are several major US Civil War battles that lasted two days. Perhaps the two most famous ones were the battles of Shiloh and Chickmauga. The former one lasted from April 6 to April 7, 1862. The latter battle was on September 19th and 20th of September in 1863.
