Many but in my opinion the most distressing thing in Andrew Jackson's Presidency was his refusal to uphold and enforce a decision by the US Supreme Court. His complete disregard of the Court's decision granting the Cherokee tribe sovereignty and then allowing the Cherokee Nation to be forcibly removed and set upon the Trail of Tears is one of the most undemocratic, unethical, and inhumane things that has threatened the very existence of our Country. Never before or since has our system of checks and balances been so willfully disregarded.
