They were made out of animal gut. Gut is normally from cattle and the term 'cat gut' is just short for 'cattle gut.' Sheep and pigs were also used.
There are lots of questions. How old is the ukulele? What is an ukulele made of?How do you tune an ukulele?
It is believed that the first ukulele was made in 1879 in Hawaii by Portugese immigrants.
Lots of factors involved:The age of the stringsWhether the ukulele is plastic or wood or a combinationHow humid the weather is and what the temperature isHow tight the tuners areI have some inexpensive (less the $20) ukuleles I purchased used that will stay in tune for a week with moderate playing. But the first few days of new strings I had to tune daily.
No. The ukulele is for anyone to play not just old people. Taylor Swift is not old. Jason Mraz is not old. Jake Shimabukuro is not old. Julia Nunes is not old.
The ukulele comes in pretty much any color you would wish. They can be painted in hundreds of colors, though they are often natural wood stained in traditional instrument patterns such as the sunburst.
YesI am a ukulele player and I am going to get a Mandolin. I tune all my ukes to C tuning gcea..even my Baritone uke. I cant see why, when I buy that mandolin, I cant tune the same WITHOUT BUYING MORE STRINGS.ALL STRINGS STAY WHERE THEY ARE EXCEPT YOU SWAP THE TOP 4 STRINGS.ALL STRINGS ARE EITHER THE EXACT RIGHT ONES, or are just one note out! The steel strings can be tuned then to match GCEA without any stress, or tight strings. This way you dont have to learn new chord patterns and I dont think you miss out on any special sound that the mandolin has to offer. I am not an expert- but it makes sense to me ;especially if you are old and dont HAVE to learn a whole bunch of new chords.
Tiny Tim was laid to rest with his ukulele and tulips, but he was 64 years old.
No, on his current guitar he has steel strings, I am not sure of the brand, in the old days of Donovan, or the good old days shall I say, he did use La Bella silk and steel on his Gibson J 45 that combined with his low D tuning gave his that soft and "bass-ie" tone that so matched his voice
I have I believe it's called a banjolele. It is old probably 1900's. It is made with mother of pearl and has 8 strings. It says musketeer on it. Can you teel me about how old it could be and is it worth alot of money?
Milliners and Hatters.
old times. from the beginning. ever heard of a ukulele? or rocks being clanked together?
yes, you can use your fingers or a knob winder to loosen the strings(hold the string while you do this), keep winding until your string pops off. If your strings are old or semi-old you might want to change them.
