Hereditary means that it is in your genes & cannot be prevented but familial means that it runs in your family..like if your mother has a heart attack or Diabetes because of her diet and lifestyle then because you are in her family with her same diet then you could too have a heart attack or diabetes but if you change your lifestyle and eat better you wont....so to make a long story longer.... hereditary is genes and cant be prevented but familial can be avoided.
