While this is highly debatable, the single (far less debatable) source of conflict for the Tsalagi (Cherokee) nation was that they were quickly adapted to european life styles, because it was very close to their own type of life prior to exposure. However, even though they quickly adapted they were just as quickly disenfranchised from their lands by treaties, and overt actions. The nation lead the first political and court campaigns in an attempt to enforce these treaties, ultimately failing at both. The nation did not understand (at least at that time) that they were not citizens, and if they converted to citizens they were 2nd class and had no property rights, and without being citizens they held "the keys to the treasure vaults of the nation" (quoting US Congressional meetings) which the United States would take by any means - including their removal (The Indian Removal Act) and murder "The Trail where they Weep" (The Trail of Tears).
