It is the high temp and the high return Pressure inside the injector that causes the fuel

Their injection pump is set too rich, and lets more diesel into the engine than the engine can burn. The partially/badly burned diesel is what comes out as black smoke.

The black smoke that a diesel engine blows out is fuel that is unburned. The black smoke can be caused from over-fueling, poor fuel quality, or dirty or worn fuel injectors.

It's illegal to use red dyed off-road diesel for on-road use, and the black smoke will give you away.

On the governor, there is a black plastic cap. Remove cap. Inside is a screw. This screw will will adjust the governor.
