Not all models are anorexic. It is important to remember that some people are just naturally thin. But if un-naturally thin models are used or a "thin is better" idea keeps up, more people will feel the pressure to be thin. This can easily lead to a rise in eating disorders.

Why do some modeling agencies demand models to be anorexic-thin?

Some agencies still stick to the age-old industry guidelines of wanting thinner models because of the belief that they are better suited to wear the designers' sample sizes, which tend to run very small anyway. There is also the continued belief that the models themselves are supposed to be "human hangers" that the clothes/fabric drapes over better and that this body type is less distracting and won't take away from clothes being featured. These days, many agencies are now switching from models that are anorexic-thin to those that are of a healthier BMI.

Are black models getting old?

That depends on what you mean by "old." Many of the successful black models today have been modeling for decades and in that sense are older, age-wise (Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman). However, there has never really been a huge demand in the fashion industry for models of color, especially black models. Many top designers refuse to use black models in their shows (with the exception of young models such as Chanel Iman), and it continues to be difficult for black models to break into the industry in this way. So black models are not getting "old" because they were never really in high demand to begin with. If anything, many black models are being excluded from the modeling industry and miss opportunities that often get passed to other ethnicites.

What is the future outlook for modeling?

The modeling industry continues to be a booming business each year. The outlook for modeling will more than likely be bright because it continues to foster a quick turn around time for models--meaning that agencies are constantly signing up new faces and retiring ones that no longer suit their needs, not to mention that the average modeling career isn't that long. The competition remains steady and the demand for models continues to grow for various projects.

Are teen models more prone to anorexia?

Yes, and no. Teens are most succeptible to develop an eating disoder. As a model, teens may get more criticism about their bodies and how they look / how they should look to be able to book jobs modeling. If they are constantly told that they do not have a "good enough" body, then they can become anorexic. This can happen to anyone, though, not just to teen models.

Why do fashion bosses want their models to be anorexic?

Because they think that being a size 6 (which we think is normal!) is being too fat and in their minds, models are not meant to be fat, they are meant to be tall and slim.

Why do models have the name for being anorexic?

For many years, model have been accused of eating disorders and being anorexic. This is increasing even more in the past few years. The reason behind this is mostly looks. Models are almost always tall and thin. Many people think that they are often "too" thin, and accuse them of having eating disoprders. Since many girls follow fashion closely, people worry that these images of tall, thin, and (sometimes, in the case of magazines) re-touched models are not good role models.
