Should have a rev limiter to protect engine from over revving
This should be really simple, if you've already removed all of the bolts which hold the shifter in including the one behind the shifter hole in the trans, the shifter should slide right down into the transmission (provided the transmission was in neutral when you pulled the shifter)

The neutral safety switch is on the drivers side of the transmission. It is a black box where the shifter arm connects to the transmission.
On the bottom of the transmission, Front of the car, driver's side, attached to the shifter linkage. With the hood open, look down below the battery. You will see the shifter linkage. The neutral safety is attached to the transmission with 3- 8mm bolts. You can also find this by following the shifter linkage or having someone shift the car from park to neutral while watching for the shifter arm moving back and forth on the side of the transmission.

You may have to remove the shifter and realign forks in the top of transmission--problem usually caused by wear
Under the rubber boot covering the shifter, there should be 4? bolts. Make sure transmission is in neutral and remove these bolts, shifter should be able to be removed at this time
Under shifter boot or housing. It detects position of shifter so you can only engage starter in neutral.
Under the shifter cable on top of transmission.
Put shifter in park or neutral.
It is mounted on the drivers side of the transmission were the shifter cable bolts onto the transmission.
The transmission range sensor tells the ecm (electronic control module - the cars computer) which shift position the shifter is in (ie= PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, DRIVE, 3, 2, 1).
