If too much water moves into an animal cell, the cell will grow large and eventually burst. This is not life-threatening though, in fact that's the reason you sometimes have wrinkly fingers after you've taken a long shower or bath.

we just learned about it in Biology!! the water that the cell is placed in is a hypotonic solution, which means that the solution has less solute than the cell. Since the solution has less solute, the water surrounding the cell will enter the cell until the concentration of the solute in the water and the cell have reached equilibrium. Get it?

it most likely will lyse (explodes; tear in plasma membrane). This is due to osmosis. The fresh water will come in to the slightly "saline" cell and it will be too much.

Ways osmosis can affect a cell?

If water moves into a cell it becomes turgid and if an animal cell can burst. Plant cell will not burst due to cell wall. If water moves out of the cell it is known as flaccid and the cell membrane will contract make the cell smaller, again if its an animal cell.

no osmosis is when water molecules wove out of a cell of any animal!

What direction does water move when cells are placed in hypertonic solution?

Water moves out of the cell in hypertonic solution.

What would happen if you put liver cell in a hyptonic solution?

If an animal cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, there will be a net movement of water into the cell and it will eventually burst. If an animal cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, there will be a net movement of water out of the cell and it will shrink.
