Brake Light Failure to Turn Off

Your question appears to be missing the word "stay" lit, so I suspect that the problem you're asking about is that the brake light does not turn OFF even though the the switch tests "good," meaning it is operating properly [opens and closes the electrical circuit when the plunger is depressed and extended/released].

IF the brake light switch is definitely good [working properly] then the most likely cause for the brake lights to remain turned on is that the position of the switch [the distance of the plunger tip from the brake pedal arm] is not adjusted properly.

Most mechanical type switches are adjusted by screwing the switch [which has a threaded mounting to a hole in the mounting bracket] either toward or away from the brake pedal arm [which depresses the switch plunger to turn off the brake lights].

It is immeasurably helpful to have an assistant stand behind the vehicle to observe and report the changes [on-off, etc.] as you make adjustments of the switch position. You should continue to make changes in the adjustment until the brake lights stay OFF when the brake pedal is not depressed, and the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed.

How do you know if your brake switch is bad for a 2001 blazer?

If the brake light fuse is good and the brake light bulbs are good it's probably a faulty brake light switch.

Why are my 97 s-10 brake lights not working?

First check the brake light fuse, then the brake light bulbs and lastly check the brake light switch. If all that checks good you may have a faulty signal switch (AKA the multifunction switch).

Why don't the brake lights work but the flashers and running lights work if the bulbs and fuses are good?

Please check the Brake light switch....The brake light switch should be located near or on the brake pedal (up on the stem of the brake pedal)

It could be the ground wire, the brake light switch, a damaged wire or connector or the turn signal switch.

What are symptoms of a faulty brake light switch?

HI, The most obvious is no brake lights, the brake lights might be coming on and off as you press the brake pedal, do you hear the switch as you press the brake pedal? A brake light switch isn't hard to replace but the first thing to look at and check is the fuse, see if that's blown. A brake light bulb may also be bad but you need to look at the fuse first.
