What efforts were made to deal with human rights in the 1900s?
Human rights issues are fairly recent and modern and there really wasn't a movement towards them until the 1960's. The idea that women had "rights" was not around. In fact, women didn't gain the right to vote until 1920 nor could they work at many professions or jobs. Many colleges kept women and minorities from attending. Civil rights wasn't discussed. Poll taxes and literacy tests were still given to black citizens to keep them from voting and it wasn't until the 1965 civil rights voting act insured the right to vote. The recognition of the disabled was not in 1900 and children with special needs were not provided for in schools or society. They were often put into mental hospitals or kept at home. So, there was no "human rights" awareness or issues in 1900.
