If you step on a pin, pain sensation goes along the sensory nerve. It's nucleus is placed in dorsal nerve root. Then the nerve fibre enters the posterior horn of spinal cord. From here you have second neuron going to anterior horn cell. Another going to higher centers. Third neuron goes to muscle. It is known as motor neuron. Together it forms a reflex arc. The leg is withdrawn immediately, before you know about pin prick.
