you may be trying to read an OBD 1 vehicle on an OBD 2 scanner. I think OBD 2 wasn't widely used until 95 or 96. I know my 93 Camaro is OBD1

Scan the computer diagnostic codes using a GM code scanner.
Typically when the engine misfires it will feel like jerking. Find out why the engine is misfiring; run a computer diagnostic test and the computer should reveal the answer.

It can, depending on how it failed. You should be able to run a computer diagnostic test and the vehicle should be able to tell you what's wrong. If the computer is telling you that the sensor is bad, you would be wise to trust it.

The primary cause for no diagnostic reading to be available on a 2001 Cavalier is a faulty connection or code reader. The computer is designed to automatically transmit codes once an ODBII code reader is connected to the port.
It means that the ABS computer has detected a fault. You can have a brake shop or the dealer connect a diagnostic computer to figure out what's wrong. Unfortunately, there aren't many of those available to the general public.
That would probably cause it to run lean.
