If the injection pump drive gear was broke loose to re-adjust the timing, after running the gear may have slipped on the pump shaft causing it to go so far out that the engine will not run. Before the gear is torqued and seated, the pump shaft and drive gear bore have to be clean. Contact cleaner works the best.
Common signs are: Hesitation, poor running, valve clatter, and loss of power. A broken timing belt or timing chain can cause an engine to stop running or cause the valves to crash to the pistons.
It would not be a good idea. First it is illegal, second it can actually cause the computer to over adjust fuel and ignition timing and cause running issues. It would not be a good idea. Running out of gas, timing chain breaks.
Incorrect timing, spark plug wires not installed correctly, timing chain worn out and has jumped a tooth, or distributor worn out.
could possably have slipped a yooth on the timing check your timing belt
The engine will turn on the starter, or with a wrench on the end of the crankshaft. However it will not run. If the Timing belt breaks, when the engine is running, this can cause extensive damage to the engine.
A damaged timing belt would stop the engine from running probably with no warning. If you should have an "interference engine" it would basically destroy the engine.
The most likely cause is that it is idling to fast. Try adjusting it down. Then set the timing to the proper specifications and readjust the idle speed. Another thing could be a vacuum leak or a float or fuel level problem.
If the vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it, it may need a new timing belt and pulleys replaced. This may cause the engine to tick as it is moving out of timing.
No. A worn timing chain or belt would cause timing to jump.
It has a timing BELT - recommended replacement mileage is 105,000 miles. CAUTION: This engine is an "interference" engine. If the belt fails while the engine is running it will cause major damage to the engine.
Broken head gasket...since an ISX with 200 miles is still under warranty, let Cummins fix it.
