My first guess would be fuel starvation which could be caused by low oil pressure. Your fule pump has a switch in it that will cause it to stop pumping fuel if your oil pressure falls to an unsafe level to prevent engine damage. So first check you oil to make sure it is at the proper level. Turn the key on but don't start the engine. when you first turn the key on you should here a growling sound from the area of the fuel tank. If you don't hear the growl you probably have a bad fuel pump fuse or bad fuel pump.

Smaller tires should not cause the check engine light to come on. Smaller tires will cause the speedometer to be off.
