The air conditioning has a small radiator called the condensor that is placed in front of the engine radiator, this make the air that cools the engine slightly hotter, which in some cars, depending on how the air flows under the hood could increase the engine temp. Also, the air conditioners in cars can use up to 15 horsepower to operate, this means that while your car is sitting still without any airflow from driving around, the engine is still working. Unfortunatly there are a few things that could be broken that would also cause the same problem, but don't go buying parts unless you know for certain that it is broken, some cars just run hotter than others.
WHENEVER the A/C is on the fans SHOULD BE RUNNING.... If not then you will overheat fairly quickly.
Start the car - turn on the A/C then lift the hood and check that the fan is running.
If not then check the fuse or the relay or the fan could be bad.
Its going bad.
Linkage needs adjustment?
the problem may be that the timing chain or belt has broken
If a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am shuts off while in drive, there could be a problem with the passlock sensor. There could also be an issue with the fuel pump.
Some things that can cause a car to stall while driving it include a bad fuel pump, running out of gas, and low fuel pressure. A clogged catalytic converter can also cause this to happen.
you left the windows down while it was raining
No, because the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am came with a 1.8L rotary V8 and the Chevy Cobalt came with n/a 2.0 that tops out around 110 while the Grand Am can get up to 190mph.
The ignition switch in a 2004 Pontiac grand am can be installed by first Sliding out old lock cylinder and then Press the small release tab While turning the key to the ON Position.
I own a 2007 pontiac grand prix. Had this same issue. No recall has been done by the company; however, after many visits to the shop to resolve this very scarry issue - the switch was replaced (turn signal/light adjustment) This seemed to fix the problem.
A faulty alternator will cause those symptoms. You might want to get t checked out.
A bad compressor belt can cause a whistling noise while running the air conditioner. A bad engine can also cause this noise.
