What would cause a 1997 ford escort lx wagon to stop running then not start all lights and electrical componets work. and it has a full tank.?

9 out of 10 times cars towed into the shop have the fuel cut off switch tripped. the car will crank but will not start the cut off switch is located in the passenger side rear quarter panel (owners manual shows right where its at. 1 of the 10 cars its the fuel pump.
