W/o power going through, it won't burn out. It may shake itself to bits, corrode, or fail through other mechanical reasons. But burn out require power through it.

Can you use a 91ohm resistor in place of 100ohm resistor?

It depends on where you are going to use this resistor and what its application going to be. If the circuit you are using can tolerate this then you are fine.

In order for a 30 volt 90 watt lamp to work properly in a 120 volt supply the required series resister in ohm is?

A 30 volt 90 watt lamp has 3 amps going through it. The series resistor also has 3 amps going through it, by Kirchoff's current law. The voltage across the resistor is 90 volts. With 3 amps, that is 30 ohms. (By the way... The resistor must be rated to carry 270 watts. That is a lot of power for a resistor.)

If you know the value of the resistor you can cut the wires going to the lock cylinder and solder in a resistor of the correct value.

What is the voltage drop of a 1k ohm resistor?

It depends on the current going through it. Ohm's law: Voltage equals current times resistance.

What are the effects of power on a resistive device?

Current passing through a resistor, et al, causes heat. The heat causes the resistance of said resistor to decrease, which causes current to increase, and the cycle just keeps going until the circuit burns out.

Why does resistor on a 1968 dodge charger have to be replaced every 2-3 months?
