Depends on your Ranger, the non 4 wheel drive take 9 inch rear brakes. The 4 wheel drive Rangers take 10 inch brakes.
The bleeder valve for the brakes on a 1997 Ford Ranger is located in the brake line where it meets the brake disc. The wheel will have to be removed to access the bleeder screw for drum brakes.
Check the pistons inside the calipers, usually they are the reason brakes lock up.
