You need to be more specific about '...and white smoke'
BEST CASE - If the white smoke is coming from under the hood, you have a coolant leak; the engine is knocking from overheating - do not run or drive for any extended period, or you will quickly push your engine towards the:
WORST CASE - If the white smoke you mention is coming out of the exhaust, it is steam from water/antifreeze entering the combustion chamber, & the knocking may indicate broken piston/bent con rod. Most likely culprit: blown head gasket/cracked head & further engine damage from hydrostatic lock. Please don't start the engine again without determining the exact cause - the damage I described may or may not have already occurred beyond the point of repair; starting/running the engine further in it's current state will simply guarantee an engine replacement is in your future.
