I think you have to put your transmission on Neutral then shift to 4x4.

Try putting gear shift into "neutral" and then shift out of 4x4
Where is the fuse or relay for 2000 f250 4x4 shift motor

1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 shift solenoid. where is it and how to replace?
It is Shift on the Fly but it has manual hubs. So you can put in it 4x4 in the cab but would have to get out to engage the hubs. So what i do is when i think i am going to need the 4x4 i lock the hubs before hand. Having the hubs unlocked reduces ware on the front drive tran and betters the MPG
Shift the lever
You need to replace the speed sensor. It is on the transfur case tail shaft housing if it is a 4x4. If it's not a 4x4 then it is on the transmission tail shaft housing. Actually what it turned out to be was the ignition switch. All of the items that failed at the same time were controled, power wise, through this switch. Thanks
If the transmission on a 1999 Chevy 4x4 will not shift into high gear, there could be a problem with the shift solenoid. There could also be a problem with a broken belt inside the transmission.
Sounds to me like the clutch is shot, assuming it is a standard shift.
The transmission may shift hard due to it beginning to fail. However, it may also be due to low transmission fluid.
Do you mean how to turn a 1986 2x4 into a 4x4? If that's the question, i would just go out and buy a 4x4. It can be done but it would take a lot of time and money. You would need a new transmission, transfer case, front axle, and new radias arm mounts. I believe what you need to do is put the tranny in park or neutral first. then shift into either 4 hi or 4 lo

The shift solenoid on your 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, is located on the top of the transmission. The solenoid will be labeled.
The shift gate or the synchronizers can be worn. Also the clutch can need adjustment if possible.
