More than likely it needs a new thermostat and the radiator back flushed.
Check if the calipers are sticking.
Check the condition of your coolant, also noting the level of it. Without coolant, your car will run hot, and the water pump will not get lubricated and may cause a failure.

This is for a 1993 ford escort LX, I ran out of room to post
1.) Low Coolant, 2.) Bad Coolant, 3.) Bad Thermostat, 4.) Worn Water Pump, 5.) Lead-Foot Problems
The blower motor is on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is under the glove box at about foot level. Frequently the hot wire that goes to the fan gets hit by someones foot and it makes it short out. Check the hot wire going to the fan motor.
The thermostat is not opening up enough,
Well, both the wipers and the blower could have a burned out fuse. Of course, they both could have a burned out motor. I would run a hot wire from the battery to the wipers and the blower motor. If they worked, I'd be looking for a fuse or bad switch.
i have a 1999 ford escort zx2 and its running hot, changed out the thermostat thermostat cooling sensor, checked the fan and it works, the temperature gauge in side the car still showing hot, let thecar set over night and the gauge still shows hot, what else could be wrong
There are differences of about 70 degrees F for cool up to 250 degrees f for hot.
The most common cause of rough idling would be a bad or clogged fuel injector. Also look for the hose on your EGR valve. They tend to come off in hot weather. If the hose comes off the engine will definitely run rough. I had to put a small hose clamp on mine to keep it from comming off. Spiritchsr1
