try it and see what happens it cant hurt. Try Fuel Injector Cleaner, (add to a full tank every 5k miles)
Also your oxygen sensor could be going (replace every 30k miles)
Bad spark wires can cause it too (check and/or replace every 30k miles)
You can also improve your mileage by keeping your tires at the proper rated pressure. (I check mine every week.)
The computer could have become confused. disconnect the battery from the vehicle. Leave it unhooked for several hours. Reconnect the battery. This should reset the computer, and hopefully solve the problem.
If the battery Is disconnect you must use the manual key entry on the door to get in.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes. If that does not reset the Check Engine light you will need access to an OBD2 scan tool.
it has to be reset if you disconnect the battery for a few minutes should do it
Well I can tell you what could happen, they tell you to disconnect the negative so you don't electricute yourself.
Disconnect the negative cable and connect (insert) an ammeter between the battery and the battery cable. Remove the fuses one by one and see which causes the current draw to drop.
disconect the battery cables for a couple of miniutes. that should do it. At Least 10 Minutes for battery disconnect
disconnect battery or buy moduleSome cars you can disconnect the battery overnight. This will reset everything. If that doesn't work, there is also a module you can buy from most auto part stores for about $115 that will reset the computer in your car. Regardless it is usually the computer in the car that is keeping the light on. If you need to reset the computer/light to get a state inspection you may have to reset the light and drive the car more than 100+ miles to truly reset the light. Note: The light must stay off for the required miles to reset the computer. Some states have this law and it must be changed.
Replace the sensorOnce you have changed the oxygen sensor just disconnect the battery cable for about 30 seconds and the computer will reset. If you don't make the repair it will never go away, that's what it is made for.
Disconnect the battery for 15-30 Mins and it will reset automatically.
You can not. I just did that about 5 min ago and nothing changed.
yes, but you need an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. attached to the adapter is a 9volt battery. plug that into the lighter before disconnecting the cables to the car battery. that adapter w/ the 9 volt battery attached to it will keep just enough voltage in the cars computer system to allow you to change the cars battery. w/o that adapter when you disconnect the old battery and reconnect the new battery the cars onboard computer system will default and blow several fuses. go to an auto parts store and rent the adapter for a few bucks.
