It depends on the size of the disappearing sphere. If a small sphere disappeared then air from adjoining space would move in and balance would soon be be restored. However, if a large sphere disappeared then the adjustment could involve extreme turbulence.

National parks are protected. Nobody can cut down trees in a national park. This would stop deforestation.
Animals and wilderness areas are preserved. Without them ancient redwoods would have been cut down, whole species of animals killed, and plants disappeared. Instead of the natural wonders of places like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Zion we would have more shopping centers and houses. Nothing can replace our National Parks for beauty and history.
