The cell will burst and eventually die. The cell membrane is like the skin of the cell, which holds the cell together. other than that, it is semi-permeable. This means that it only allow selected substances ,such as water, may pass through it.

If sufficiently damaged, the inner contents of the cell would leak out. This would kill the cell. This actually happens pretty frequently as a defensive measure from the innate immune system. A group of proteins referred to as complement react to form a pore in an invading cell.

What would happen to a cell if its membrane burst?

It would depend on the extent of the damage to the cell membrane. If there is only minor damage to the membrane, the cell will produce the necessary proteins, fats and carbohydrates to repair the damage, and work towards returning to homeostasis. If the damage is extensive, the cell will lyse and die, as it is no longer able to maintain homeostasis.
