he vechiles computer system needs it to monitor spark and fuel delivery so if it goes bad you will think its out of time if the sencor is bad it might run poor then a no start at all will happen.

The crank sensor (real name is crankshaft position sensor) senses when a notch on the crankshaft goes by and sends a pulse to the car's computer. This tells the computer where the crankshaft is in it's rotation so that the computer will fire the spark plug and injectors at the correct time.
The engine won't start.
It goes into the top of bell housing.
If the sensor is erratic, then the engine could shake or sometimes not run. If the sensor is completely bad, then the car wont start at all.
AN engine that will not run correctly if at all.
Only when it goes bad, in most cases it will not go bad.
That is where the crankshaft position sensor goes.

According to my manual that goes up to 1996, yes the 3.0 does have a crankshaft position sensor.
