There will be a "lead time" of several hundred thousand years before earth eventually become uninhabitable because of the expansion of the sun. During that time, mankind will either develop means to relocate to another habitable place in the galaxy, or mankind will come to an end. You might search for a Science Fiction story writen by Arthur C. Clarke about 1946 called "Rescue Party" (frequently anthologized) which draws a good picture of this question. It was science fiction when written, but it holds up very well as a likely scenario even today..

∙ 11y agoI find the world ending really funny because we have all heard so many theories to how it will end. In 2000 they said that the world will end and that was when i was born. It obviously didn't end. And then there is this theory today it is December 20 where i live but us compared to Austrailia they are a day ahead of us so would that mean that the world would end on the 22nd no one knows. where i live we also had a power outage and we havent had one this whole year. and we are having a really bad snow storm. And in the movie 2012 they had a giant split in the earth days before the date 12-21-12 then they had all that stuff happen. Besides back when the mayans made the mayan calender they didnt even have the best technology to prove their evidence of the world ending. If the world ends you have to face gods decision.
