Well, think of your muscles like your "businesses". Each muscle is a business you have been born with to make "money". So if a business grows weak, in muscles, a weak business can only get worse or get better. But once a muscle goes out of business, that's the end of it. The muscle fibers lost, can never be gained back...But! If you still have muscle, you can strengthen it like a struggling business, by working harder, working out, using them more than usual. If you leave them weak, they will over time, and quite quickly, shrink (atrophy), and the deterioration of muscles is very bad. You must keep what you have and make it stronger, because once it's gone, it's gone. :) Hope that helped.
You will weigh less (because muscle weigh's more then fat). They mostly shrink if you do too much exercise like; run too much, do too many jumping jacks, do many sports etc. But it will not turn into fat (that is a myth) it'll go back to the way you were before you gained the muscle mass. And depending on how much you use your muscles it should take between 12weeks - 6months for them to go back to the way you were before.
