This does not seem to be the cause of a bad catalytic converter. A converter is there to convert harmful toxins into harmful ones and you will know if it goes bad if your gas mileage suddenly worsens or your RPGs are going up but the car does not go any faster. If your car is sounding funny and has an odd smell, then it might be something to do with the heater core.
the shop I go to said that my 2000 Jetta would not pass the smog check when the catalytic converter went bad.
Yes it does. I have a 2005 Mercury Sable and mine just went out.
If the vehicle was manufactured after federal EPA requirements for them went into effect, yes.
Loss of power, poor fuel mileage, converter gets red hot, possibly check engine light will come on.
I went to a muffler shop and was charged $225 for parts and labor
Working on the exhaust system is a job best left to a professional. You will save very little by doing it yourself. Have the catalytic converter tested to be sure you need a new one. Catalytic Converters are very expensive so you do not want to replace a good one. If it is bad you need to find out why it went bad. Things like a miss on a cylinder from a bad plug or a defective O2 sensor will ruin the converter. Also a burnt exhaust valve will destroy the converter.
You will get a Check engine light with a P0420 error code. Mine just went. Check with the dealer they are warranted for for up to 80k mileage.
they would be fat
it would float
It would be sad.
nothing would happen but it would be quite nerve racking
If they went extinct the whole food chain would be out of balance.
