Because like many different specis of fish it depends on the specimen and were it was born, say it was born in a fish bowl, full of ordinary water, then it wouldn't leave it's actual habitat, but if it was born in salt water then it would have to live it's life in salt water.

∙ 9y agoSalt water fish and fresh water fish are both adapted specifically to their environments. If a salt water fish is put in fresh water, the process of osmosis will flood the fish's cells with water, eventually killing it.

∙ 9y agoFreshwater Fish would lose water from its body and eventually die of placed into saltwater. Saltwater Fish have special cells and kidneys that remove the salt from their bodies. There are some species that can be gradually switched between the two types of water.

∙ 15y agoSaltwater is way different from freshwater. Saltwater is salty, and fresh water is fresh. If a saltwater fish is placed in freshwater it will die, becaus it's breathing in water it's not adapted to. For example:If you move to a different state you can get comfortable, so you can feel at home. Saltwater fish can't do that, because their body is adapted to saltwater.
