Two thousand years ago, according to ancient Jewish law, Mary would have been either ostracized (shunned) or stoned to death.

Jewish Answer

At that time in Jewish history, Mary would have been considered married to Joseph by the point she had gotten pregnant based on Jewish marriage traditions. She would not have been ostracized nor would she have been stoned as there would have been no legal basis for such a punishment.

Contrary to what many non-Jews believe, ancient Jews did not go running about stoning anyone for any violation of Jewish law. Rather, the laws regarding sentencing someone to death were so strict, it was virtually impossible to impose this sentence. In truth, a Jewish court that sentenced even one man to death in 70 years would be noted for just that one sentence.

yes.

Can you marry a girl in your relation?

No, not without consequences. If you are close blood relations, and of child bearing age, it is likely your children will not be as healthy and normal as other children. If you are in love with a second or third cousin, the odds might not be as great that you would have handicapped children. If you are past child bearing age and fall in love with a first cousin, let's say, then you can marry without causing any problems, except that many will think what you've done is improper or even incestuous.

What would you do if you got pregnant out of wedlock?

If an airmen has a kid out of wedlock will he be kicked out?

No you will not be disciplined or kicked out of the armed service for having a child out of wedlock. There is tons of folks in that position. Now if the person you are having the child with is married or you have cheated against your wife with the person having the child that is a different story. Its still on the books that having an extra marital affair is punishable by hanging, I'm glad they don't do that anymore because 1/2 of our armed forces would be swinging. Cheating nowadays involves loosing rank if that.

Can you get legal custody of your child if the mother is undocumented?

If you file for it and the court feels it would be in the best interests of the child, yes. Immigration status usually has no bearing on such matters.

Do children born out of wedlock raised in comfort?

Sometimes, a wedlock child was made accidentally. Maybe a hook-up or simply an unmarried girlfriend and boyfriend didn't wear protection; there's a different answer for a different scenario. Sometimes it's difficult for a wedlock child to be in comfort if he was accidental. Say a boyfriend and girlfriend had a child, but the relationship didn't last and they broke up. The child couldn't say to their friends: "Oh, my parents are married and live at home together." Because that's a lie; and the child knows it. Or maybe the simple fact that he has parents that don't love each other can unnerve the child, and make him uncomfortable. Physically, he may be raised in comfort, with video games and football, but mentally, it can be a breakdown. Although, if a wedlock child's parents were simply not married when he was born, but got married soon after, he might live peacefully. Chances are, he would, because there's nothing to be uncomfortable about. Like I said, there's a different answer for a different scenario, but I hope I helped anyways :)

What did it mean to swear a child and what resulted from this legal activity?

Briefly:As early as the 1600s, children born out of wedlock were becoming a burden on England's parishes. Their mothers were required to identify the fathers so that they could pay to maintain the child just as they paid to maintain their legitimate families. Efforts were made to force single women to reveal the name of the father both before and after the birth. A licensed midwife would withhold her services until the mother had named the father of her child. In Colonial America a child being born out of wedlock automatically resulted in a trial to determine who the father was and how the child would be supported. Most of the time the courts had to rely on testimony regarding the identity of the father.Swearing a child was associated with an unmarried mother naming the father of her child so that he could be required to provide financial support.Briefly:As early as the 1600s, children born out of wedlock were becoming a burden on England's parishes.
