It could be either bad rings bad cylinders bad valves sticky rings caused by sludge or bad valve guides. Before freaking first try Gunk High Milage Motor Flush to free stickyrings and Bars Leaks 2 Part Engine Fix to make the oil cling to the worn parts better. Good luck!
