What would make a man lie about a past relationship saying his ex went away to school and that's why they broke up and one night you said something about her moving on and he got very upset?

I have no idea why you would consider this man is lying. He obviously loved her very much, but perhaps they both wanted careers, had to study hard and didn't have the time to date, or perhaps he couldn't afford to go to the same school as her or possibly it was a private school. These things happen. He must have been very hurt by that and perhaps she was too. It's really none of your business as he gave you a good enough explanation when he didn't have too. Haven't you every had someone hurt you badly? I don't think you would like to rehash it over again. Let by-gones be by-gones and don't bring this subject up again to him. He's trying to get on with his life.
