It could be a bad starter
The engine will smother down as if running out of fuel. When the fuel pump went out on my pickup, is just randomly quit. It worked fine one day, and when I went out to start it again, it would not start.
check pcv valve
Several things could be causing the 1994 Cherokee to have this problem. There could be a drop in fuel pressure. There could also be a problem with the ignition circuit like a coil pack breaking down as it gets hot. Check these areas to start with.
Many times an electronic fuel pump, that is going bad, will cause the engine to stop running and then start again. The fuel pump will eventually get worse.
The problem could be with your cellunoid. They wear out. Its the part that produces the spark.
The year, make, model and engine size would certainly help but it sounds like it needs a good tune up including spark plug wires.
your crank angle sensor playing up.
Ran into this same problem on my 1991 Grand Prix. Could drive it for awhile till it got up to normal operating temp. After that it would die again and would not start until cooled off. Turns out it was ignition control module. This part can be taken off and taken to an auto parts store to be tested. Once replaced, no more problems.
why don't you unhook the battery again but leave it off for three hours to reset the computer ... good luck
my 7.3 powerstroke will start sputtering while going down the road. then i can start it back up then it would run fine. thanks for your help
The start-stall issues are most likely the result of the car being 23 years old and in dire need of an overhaul.
