Hi,

I have a 1972 MF loader/backhoe that is designated as a model MF 20/40 on the rollover cage. It has a model 52 backhoe attached, and has (I believe) a model 32 loader attached. I believe my unit is an MF 20 industrial model. It's got a 3 cyl perkins diesel.

What is the weight capacity of your current model of loader?

There are several different models availabel for our loaders. Each model has a different max weight capacity, please provide a model number. You'd have to specify what model of loader you want. If you want a front end loader the higher capacity would be 15 tons.

How to manage and move a backhoe loader?

You have seen construction sites or documentaries which use big and heavy weight tractors to move and transfer tons of sand, stone and rubble- and the most common one that they often use is the backhoe loader. Yes, a backhoe loader may sound complicated, but the name simply implies a tractor with loaders on both the front and the back area. These two loaders are the hands of the loader, which scoops and drops the objects as controlled by the controller. As a result, the controller must be very much aware on how to manage and move the backhoe loader safely and effectively. 1. Check the premises of the loader; be sure that there is no one, nothing or anything that might come in the way. Be very cautious on this matter, as the loader is huge and there will be no turning back once it hits or goes over something. 2. Climb up to the controllers area, this may be located a bit higher than usual control areas so be careful when climbing up. When up, secure yourself on the seat, you can freely move the chair to the steering wheels and the buttons so you will be more comfortable in manipulating the entire thing. 3. Key in the ignition and allow the engine to heat up for some time if the backhoe was not used for long. Heating up would take a little more or less than 10 minutes; this will depend on the controller’s discretion. 4. While the engine is still being heated up, you can try to look around and get to know the different control buttons on the loader. Check for the brake pedal, the accelerator, the gearshift and all the maneuvers that you can perform on the loader. Make sure that all is working and in good condition. 5. When manipulating the boom and the bucket, be sure that the bucket is coiled inward facing the backhoe. The longer stick is used to control both the boom and the bucket, while the shorter stick on the control is what you have to use when raising and lowering the stabilizers. Be sure to raise the stabilizers before you move the backhoe. 6. Lift the loading bucket located on the front but don’t move it too high that it disrupts your view. Move it just enough that it does not touch the ground and not go too high. After which you can drop the locking pin in the front bucket. 7. If you wish to move your backhoe at this point, you can step on the gas pedal and manipulate the gears and shifts to get where you want it to be located.

Would you please explain to me some of the uses for a backhoe loader?

Backhoe loaders are very common and can be used for a wide variety of tasks: construction, small demolitions, light transportation of building materials, powering building equipment, digging holes/excavation, landscaping, breaking asphalt, and paving roads.

Would a Catepillar skid steer or backhoe be better for septic tank repair and instillation?

A backhoe would be the better option since a backhoe can dig deeper than a skid steer. Also, the weight of a backhoe would allow it not to move anywhere. Plus, a backhoe can remove the septic tank if that was needed. I would suggest looking at backhoes from Catepillar.

Why does your three point hitch not work when you unhook your front end loader?

Both are hydraulic. Often when you disconnect one hydraulic device you bleed air into the system... You might need to cap off the front end loader hydraulic connectors, bleed the air out and refill with hydraulic fluid. Another possibility is that you are simply low on fluid. Yet another, less loved cause, is a stuck priority diverter valve - that prioritizes hydraulic pressure when both devices are attached. Finally, not knowing your particular model - the possibility does exist that there is no diverter and that it runs off the same hydraulic line as the loader - in that case, the fix would be just to connect a line to the front end loader inlet, then connect the other line to the outlet (tractor side connections, clearly not the loader itself). Hope this helps.

Can a backhoe and trailer be taken with repossessed truck?

If they only have an order of repossession of the truck, then no. Otherwise, the trailer and backhoe would be considered stolen.

Where is friction needed in a backhoe loader?

You would need friction between the tires or tracks and the dirt the tractor is sitting. If you have extended legs, you need friction between the pads and the ground. You would want friction in the brakes. A clutch also relies on friction. Technically you could "dig water", but if you are trenching, then one needs friction between the dirt particles. It is also handy to have friction in your seat, steps, and controls.
