Adding 5 quarts of oil to an engine and overfilling it can cause the seals to blow out. This can cause engine failure.
For putting seals on
4 quarts over full is not safe for your engine, that is almost twice the amount that it calls for. that much oil will cause more pressure on your oil seals, and could cause a severe leak that is an expensive fix.
Transmission seals? front yes, rear no. Engine seals, yes.
It should take approxamatly 5 quarts of oil for a 5.7 litre v8 but always fill it with 4 quarts and then check it before you add the 5th. The dipstick will have a safe operating range on it that will say min and max if you get the oil level somewhere between the two you will be fine. If it is below your engine will not have enough lubricant and too much your engine will overflow and foul out the plugs and ruin your seals.
3.78L (4.0 quarts) I use 3 quarts of Pennzoil® 10W - 50, a quart of Duralube® and a small can of Engine Restore®. Restore® seals any scratches in your cylinder walls and it really does give you better mileage.
Get a manual on your car from DISCOUNTAUTOREPAIRMANUALS.COM. there are many seals and some have to be done with the engine out.
rings or seals
The effectiveness of automotive leak inhibitors vary dependent to the level of damage/degradation of the engine, transmission, cooling, and steering systems seals and gaskets. Engine oil stop leaks seal to recondition seals. Severely degraded seals and gaskets usually require replacement.
If you only added engine oil to the master brake cylinder reservoir, remove the master cylinder and replace it with a new one. Engine oil in the brake system will destroy all rubber parts and seals, so if the engine oil worked its way to the calipers and wheel cylinders those would have to be replaced also.
I would start with about 3 quarts and run the engine and drive a LITTLE and check the level..and slowly add more fluid to the transmission. Overfilling can cause excess pressure and blow seals.
An OTS engine is an off the shelf engine. The engines come with new rotor housings, rotors, and apex seals.
u will blow your engine oil seals, causing an oil leak and damage to the engine.
