Some would say from the Birth of Christ, or when he started His ministry, or even from the time of His death. In reality Christianity began with Father Adam nearly seven thousand years ago. He knew of the savior even before He was born, that He would come at some future date to preach His gospel and to offer up His life for the sake of mankind.

He preached of Christ to his children, and the worthy ones to their children, on until the time of Christs birth and on again till our day.

Philo of Alexandria writes in AD 10 that communities of Christians are all over the Roman Empire. Eusebius, Augustine, Tertullian and Clement of Alexandria all confirm that there were Christians before the first century and that Philo's "Thereputes" were indeed Christians.

So Christianity has to have begun sometime in the 1st or second century BC. Probably when the Pharisees were persecuted and exiled from Judea under the reign of Alexander Jannaeus 103-76 BC.

Of course, they weren't called Christians until sometime in the middle of the second century. Minucius Felix and Justin Martyr both testify that in their day, Christians are so called because they are anointed, "Christ" meaning "anointed one".

If by Christian you purely mean those who believed in Jesus as God, then it began most officially after the resurrection of Jesus, in 32-35AD. Catholicism continues to be of the same branch of Jesus' original followers, the apostles. I would consider it being started once Jesus had his disciples start to follow him, for they believed he was the son of God before he died.

Christianity began with the first preaching of the gospel by Peter, after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in AD 30.

In the Roman Empire, Christianity was considered officially equal to all other religions in A.D. 313. In A.D. 380 Christianity became Romes official religion. I hope this helped!

Some point to 17 Jun 31 AD, on Pentecost Sunday, 50 days after Christ's resurrection on Saturday (7 full weeks and 1 more day or 49+1=50).
.
Because many modern scientist believe Jesus was crucified on the 4th Passover of His 3.5 year ministry, they have come to the following dates - remember Jewish days begin and end at sunset:

Last Supper - Passover night, 25 April 31 AD, 4th Passover as Sir Isaac newton first postulated.

Crucifixion - Passover day 25 April 31 AD, just before sunset and start of High Annual Sabbath.

Resurrection - Saturday Sabbath, 28 April 31 AD, just before sunset and start of first day - Sunday.

Ascension - Thursday, 7 June 31 AD Holy Spirit.

NT Church Begins - 17 June 31 AD on Pentecost Sunday (50 days after resurrection Saturday 28 April 31 AD).

On another note, the above dates reflect the period of the beginning of the 'Church of God' as it is called about a dozen times in the New Testament. This Church is not what was later to be coined 'Christianity by those trying to disparage the followers of the teachings of Paul. Though the name or term Christian surpassed the previous followers of the 'Nazarene' or 'the Way,' it soon deviated from the true teachings of Kingdom of God and the spiritual aspects of the Law which Jesus taught. It would be fair to say, that if the Apostles and Christ walked the Earth today, they would not recognize the teachings coming out of the nearly 30,000 churches/organizations calling themselves Christian.
