When was Country music developed?

Country music continues to develop in various ways, even though it was born some 230 years ago in the Appalachian Mountains of the United States of America. Country music that we know of today from the 20th and 21st centuries was based on the following:

1920's - A type of bluegrass sound in most recordings. An example would be Uncle Dave Macon, Jimmie Rodgers, or the Carter Family.

1930's - The cowboy period, where major stars such as Roy Rogers, Son's of the Pioneers, Tex Ritter, and Gene Autry were hitting the top of the country music charts.

1940's - More of the type of music with the "big band" sound.

1950's - Rockabilly. When Rock and Roll and Country music was combined together. Elvis Presley is the only artist to date, who could combine most all forms of music into hit records.

1960's - The Nashville Sound was new technology, equipment, and singing style that made country music the most popular music in the world.

1970's - By 1976, country music was heading toward what was known as "The Outlaw Movement." These were artists who basically didn't appreciate the way Nashville nor their recording companies had total control over their careers. Artists like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson would both sign with another recording company to record the type songs and music they wanted to sing.

1980's - The Pop Music sound to country was the thing that drifted in from the late 1970's. But, the country sound would begin to make a comeback with Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, George Strait, and Ricky Skaggs.

1990's - Traditional Country Music Sound was back! Artists such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Pam Tillis, and Conway Twitty played the major role in this development.

2000's - Most of the decade has been Pop-Rock sounds on what some may think of as Country Music. As for the true "Classic Country Music Fans," they don't listen to this type of music.
