from 1653 - 1658 England was ruled by Oliver Cromwell, who overthrew the monarchy and cut off the former King, Charles the 1st's, head.

England also had no ruling king during the reigns of her ruling queens

This period is called Interregnum it runs from 30TH January 1649 when CHARLES I was beheaded till 29th May 1660 when CHARLES II was restored king and on 23rd April 1661 ( ST GEORGE'S DAY) in Westminster Abbey he was crowned

I think the question should ask "What Years" (Plural) There are too many to list, the most recent ones are from 1953 to the present time. The last ruling king (King George Vl) died in 1952 so I didn't count it, as he ruled for part of it.
