The first Indian Independence Revolt, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny or the Indian Rebellion of 1857, took place in 1857. It began in May of that year and lasted until June 1858. The revolt was primarily a response to British colonial rule and various grievances among Indian soldiers and civilians. Although it was ultimately suppressed, it marked a significant turning point in India's struggle for independence.
