In the state of Iowa Sioux City is in the Northwest region. It is a tri-state city with it’s city limits expanding to South Dakota, Nebraska as well as the largest part being located in Iowa. The great Expedition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark left a monumental impact on the city and documentation dating as far back as 1804. Just 50 years before it’s original foundation in 1854. Many streets and memorials were named after Charles Floyd who was not only a member of the expedition but also died in Sioux City in the year 1804. A well-known plane crash was also a news-worthy event in Sioux City. The United Airlines flight 232 killed 112 people when it crash landed at the Sioux Gateway Airport on July 19, 1989. Over 85,000 people reside in Sioux City and it’s surrounding townships. Many more thousands travel to Sioux City for it’s performing arts, professional and semi-professional sporting teams.
