Not sure about the GM cars, maybe 1968-1969. GM trucks came with disc brakes starting in 1971.
The front brakes on any vehicle do most of the stopping. When you apply the brakes the weight shifts to the front of the vehicle. For this reason the front brakes are needed more than the rear. Try stopping a vehicle with just the hand brake which applies only the rear brakes.
First of all, Do you have any specialty brake tools? Ben
The 96s are notorious for their feeble front brakes
i am not very familiar with this type of car but front brakes do about 60-70% of your braking thus requiring a larger pad, so logic suggests that your front brakes are larger then your rear brakes Front pads on almost any vehicle are larger.
Not sure what you are asking, but it has disc brakes in the front, and drums in the back. If you want to know what specific pads to buy, just go on any online site that sells auto parts, and it will ask you for your model and year, and show you what fits...
If memory serves, the typical braking force ratio for any automobile with front disc and rear drum brakes is 60% front, 40% rear +/-.
sorry i cant answer that ? but just curious I have a 2003 Pontiac grand am se and the front brakes have to be replaced about every 7 months, are you haviing any problem like that with your car?
disc brakes are usually used on the front of a car is because the braking ratio for any Car is 70 / 30 ........70 percent of the braking power goes to the front 30 percent goes to the back also if you had disc brakes on the rear of the Car and you slam on (emergency stop) the brakes would lock and you would slide all over the road
No special tools needed.
4x2 or 4x4, it doesn't make any dif. but it depends on the make, model & year of the vehicle. some have disc brakes on all 4 wheels, [newer models] & some still have disc in front & drums in the back. hope this helps ya.
nope ...its the same as any other car for the basic mechanic.
Ii might be the way the brakes was bled. The brakes has to be bled with the car running and in this order: right rear, left front, left rear, right front. The computer wont recognize any other way.
