The Battle of Yorktown, in which the British General Cornwallis surrendered to Rebel General Washington was in 1781. This ended all combat between the British and the Rebels. However, the American Revolutionary War did not officially end until the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783, wherein the United States was recognized as an independent entity.
