I know when I sold Girl Scout Cookies in the late 70s the cookies had a vanilla wafer in them. Not sure when it changed to the brown cookie it has today. We had them in the 1950's.

For the 2014 Girl Scout Cookie Sale, ABC Bakers Thin Mints have about 32 cookies per box and Little Brownie Bakers Thin Mints have about 28 cookies per box. Note that the boxes are filled by weight, not by the amount of cookies, so the number of cookies may vary.

Did Girl Scouts in the 40's only sell Plantation cookies?

No, Girl Scouts also sold calendars during the war years when butter, flour, and sugar were hard to get. They also sold chocolate and vanilla flavor sandwich cookies. By the end of the 1940's, Girl Scouts sold three varieties of cookies: Sandwich, Shortbread, and Chocolate Mint (now the Thin Mints). During the early 1940's, Girl Scout councils arranged for the cookies sold in their local councils. The Plantation Cookies were probably sold in specific Girl Scout councils. By 1948, there were 29 licensed cookie bakers around the US.

Thin Mints are the number one seller, followed by Samoas/Caramel DeLites and then Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs. Personal opinion: Caramel DeLites, Thin Mints, Shortbreads, and Peanut Butter Patties are the best Girl Scout cookies.
